How to Store Leftover Cake

Who finishes an entire cake in one sitting? If an occasion calls for cake in Burnaby, we bet you will have some leftovers to deal with. Don’t let that delicious cake in Burnaby you got from The Valley Bakery go to waste. Here are some tips on how to properly store cake:

1. Use a Ziploc or any air tight container to store unfrosted cake.

If possible, cut them up into smaller slices so they will fit better in the container. Always store cake in an airtight container as cakes tend to absorb the smell of the fridge. If you have other smelly stuff in the fridge, your leftover cake will definitely taste like it.

2. Freeze frosted cakes for a few minutes.

Cut them up into smaller slices as well and then chill them in the fridge for about 15 minutes or until the frosting has hardened up. That way, you can easily place it in a Ziploc or box container and prevent the frosting from getting everywhere.

3. Use a cling wrap for uncut cakes without frosting.

Make sure the wrap clings tightly on the cake for a tighter seal. Cakes without frosting actually keep for 5-7 days depending on room temperature. If the cake is oil-based, it might even last a bit longer.

4. Get a cake keeper.

This will work in storing frosted cakes. Frosted cakes should last for up to 5 days on the counter.

Be sure to get your cake fresh from the bakery, so it will last longer when you take it home.
